Tamilnadu beats Himachal Pradesh, 3-0,  in a preliminary league match for the National Junior Football  Dr B C Roy Trophy held at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata. 

Sports and Games-9: Shooting

India's Ronjan Sodhi wins the double trap gold in the World Cup Shooting Championship held at Lonato, Italy.

Sports and Games-8:

1. India's Seina Naval enters Women's Finals of the Yonex Sunrise-India Grand Prix gold badminton championship match at Chennai India by defeating Indonesia's Aprilia Yuswandari in straight sets, 21-17, 21-11.  She meets Malaysia's Choo Wong Mew in the Finals.

2.  In the Men's Singles, Yusuf Alamsyah of Indonesia beats top-seeded Indian, Chetan Anand, 16-21, 21-12, 21-13 at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.

Sports and Games-7: Tennis

1.  Maria Sharapova enters Women Single's Finals in the Aegon ATP Championship Tennis Tournament played at Birmingham, England, by defeating Alison Riske, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

2. Lleyton Hewitt beats Benjamin Becker 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 and enters the Men's Singles Finals in the Gerry Weber Open Tennis Tournament at Halle, England.

Sports and Games-6: Cricket

1. In the first T20 match played at Harare, Zimbabwe, India beat Zimbabwe by 6 wickets.

2. South Africa scores 352 in the first innings in the first test against West Indies at Port of Spain, West Indies.  Boucher, de Villiers and Prince shine with the bat for South Africa and for West Indies Benn claims 5 wickets for 120 in 47 overs.

Sports and Games-5: Football

1. In the World Cup Football match held at Port Elizabeth yesterday, South Korea beat Greece 2-0.


2. In another match at Johannesburg, Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0.


3. The third match held yesterday at Cape Town between France and Uruguay ended in a draw.


4. Today's matches:


(a) Algeria play Slovania - 5 pm -Polokwane
(b) Serbia play Ghana - 7.30 pm - Pretoria
(c) Germany play Australia - 12 midnight - Durban

Sports and Games-4: Cricket

Today India plays Zimbabwe in the first T20 cricket match at Harare, Zimbabwe.

Sports and Games-3: 19th World Cup Football Tournament - Some Facts & Figures

1.  For the first time, the World Cup Football Tournament is being conducted in an African country.


2.  Zakumi is the official mascot of this Tournament.


3.  There are 202 nations in the Tournament of which 32 nations have qualified for the finals.


4.  The Tournament duration is one month starting from June 11 to July 11, 2010.


5.  The total prize money is Rs,2000 crores, of which Rs.142 crore will go to the champion.


6.  The team winning the second place will get Rs.113 crore.


7. The matches will be held in ten different grounds in nine cities of South Africa.


8. The Inaugural function of the Tournament was held yesterday in Johannesburg city at the Soccer City Stadium. More than one lakh spectators participated in the function.


9. More than 1500 artists (musicians and dancers) participated in the Inaugural function.


10. The opening match held yesterday between the home team and the Mexican team ended in a draw.


11. Today there are three matches: South Korea Vs Greece,  Argentina Vs Nigeria, and England Vs USA.
